Colin Aspinall – Chairman

Colin has spent over 20 years in Finance, Operations and IT Management having first trained as an accountant. His previous employment includes Mothercare and Asda, followed by IT Director and Commercial Finances with Ultralase and Northern Gas Networks.

Charles Anelay

Charles has been involved with the property and construction sector for nearly 40 years.  Mostly that was with William Anelay Ltd, a multi award winning specialist heritage contractor, that sadly went into administration.  He then moved into the not for profit sector as Property Portfolio Manager for the Diocese of York where he is also Diocesan Surveyor.  Charles is actively involved in his local church, where he is a Reader, and part of the team that focuses on providing inclusive services for all ages.  As well as supporting the Wilberforce Trust he is also involved with the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust.

Anne Mwangi

Anne has over 30 years’ experience of working in the field of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the public, higher education and charity sectors. She previously worked for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation/Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRF/JRHT) as the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.  Currently Anne is the Head of Race Equality Charter for Advance HE.

Beth Wallace

Beth has over 30 years experience working in mainly procurement & supplier management roles within a number of public and private sector businesses.  Before going self-employed in 2011, she was Group Sourcing Director for Royal & Sun Alliance.  In 2011, she set up her own consulting business and has supported the likes of the Cabinet Office, law firms such as Pinsent Masons and insurance businesses like Covea.  She is on the Advisory Board for York St John University Business School and mentors under and post graduate business students.

Kate Thompson

Kate has worked in social housing for the last 25 years. She is currently the Head of Extra Care for the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust. She has also worked for Anchor Trust and Manchester City Council. Kate specialises in older people’s and supported housing, she also has experience of managing services charges, health and safety and tenancy management. In 2022 Kate was  awarded an MBE for her work in social care and her commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Nafees Arif

Nafees is a seasoned CFO and Finance Director with over 20 years of experience leading financial strategy, transformation, and stakeholder engagement across public and private sectors.  He has worked in a number of different areas including financial services, major infrastructure projects and healthcare property, for large and small organisations.

Sue Hogston

Sue is an experienced nurse with over 40 years of experience in nursing, Susan has held diverse roles in both community and acute settings, including practice educator, operational manager, and clinical governance lead.

Transitioning from the National Health Service (NHS) to the third sector in 2011, Susan served as a national chief nurse for a prominent palliative care charity until 2018. In 2018, she established her healthcare consultancy business, offering professional mentorship and coaching services. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Susan was the Director of Care for a charitable organisation, overseeing care homes, supportive living, and services for individuals with learning disabilities. She then returned to palliative care, as Head of Nursing and CQC registered manager for the Yorkshire region for a national palliative care charity driven by her passion for service development and quality in standards of care.

Sue brings a wealth of knowledge and skills in healthcare delivery, nursing development, and charity sector leadership, having served as a director in three separate charities since 2011.

Chris Shanks

Chris brings a wealth of professional experience in recruitment to the Board, alongside valuable lived experience of disability. He holds a Masters in Disability Studies from the University of Leeds and has a strong background in local advocacy, having established and chaired the Leeds Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO) to campaign for improved access to the built environment. Chris is deeply passionate about Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and is committed to maximising opportunities for all service users.

Stuart Leslie

Stuart has over 20 years of professional experience focussed on driving funding and finance strategies for large organisations across the public and private sectors. After many years leading a portfolio of corporate and international clients at Lloyds Bank, Stuart joined the National Wealth Fund at the start of 2023 where he advises local government leaders across the UK on the design, development and financing of their growth and clean energy ambitions. He is a committed and passionate charity trustee, and from 2018-2025 was an Exec Board member at St Nicks, with 5 of those years as Chair. Stuart lives in York with his wife and two young boys.
