Technology Support

Providing technology support to those who need it most.

Technology Support Service

New technology can be daunting, but it can also be liberating. If you or someone you know has a visual impairment, hearing loss or physical disability then we are here to help! We can provide signposting to helpful technologies as well as training and support to help you achieve your goals.

Our technology support service is non-standard and based upon your specific needs. We generally work through the following steps:

  1. We start by identifying what you would like to achieve with technology, giving suggestions of extra things you may not have considered along the way.
  2. Explore which of these goals can be achieved on any existing technology you already have.
  3. Signpost potential technologies to fill gaps left by your current technology.
  4. Provide support, training and troubleshooting to help you achieve your goals with the technology.

You may have heard that there are many benefits to technology but not really know how it can help you? The following list is not exhaustive but hopefully it will give you an idea about some of the possibilities:

  • Online shopping
  • Browse the web
  • Emails
  • Video calls with subtitles
  • Make reading easier
  • Listen to books
  • Listen to music
  • Feel music
  • Watch TV and videos on demand
  • Smart assistants
  • Control your home
  • Home security
  • Play games

If you are curious whether we can help with something that is not on the above list give us a call on 01904 760037 and our Assistive Technology Advisor will get back to you. There’s no harm and you may be surprised.

Our technology support service can be delivered within your own home or at our Sensory Hub (currently unavailable as we are moving offices) and partners are also welcome at these sessions. Initial discussions over the phone or in the Sensory Hub to determine your needs are free, with further hour long sessions priced at £25 for face to face support (five sessions can be booked up front for a discount at £100). If home visits are requested, travel charges will be applied if you live more than 5 miles outside of the York City Ring Road at 45p per mile.

Technology Demonstrations

We are currently in the process of moving offices, however once we are at our new base of operations we intend to hold regular technology demonstrations. Our plan is to invite product specialists to come in and show off their technologies e.g. Orcam, Synapptic and Sight and Sound Technology.
