Outreach Service
The Wilberforce Trust are keen to raise awareness of the needs of people experiencing sensory loss and the support that is available for them. The Outreach Programme involves visiting communities across York and North Yorkshire to inform people about sight and hearing loss and to provide much needed support where required.
We would love to know what is happening in your local area, or perhaps you are a member of a local group who would benefit from our outreach service, if so please contact us for further information about how we can support your event. We also attend local community events where possible.
Our outreach services have been set up to enable you to access the same professional advice, support and services we offer at the Sensory Hub within your local community. We are able to offer outreach within community settings/exhibitions/events etc…
The outreach service is delivered by the same trained professionals offering:
- Equipment demonstrations (with a selection of the equipment from our Sensory Hub)
- A wide range of information, support and advice
- Referrals for sensory assessments
- Rehabilitation information and advice
- Fundraising
- Housing
- Recruitment
We also work in partnership with other local and national providers where possible to improve the level of service provision for our customers e.g. The Royal Association for Deaf People (RAD).
Outreach activities benefit services and those accessing them, by increasing access to resources, raising awareness, and building relationships, particularly with those who may not typically use the service.
The Wilberforce Trust is dedicated to helping those with visual impairment, sight loss, hearing loss and other disabilities across York, North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas.
