Technology Support Service
New technology can be daunting, but it can also be liberating. If you have a visual impairment/hearing loss or know someone who has, we are here to help! As part of our Yorsensory services, we can provide support and training on the latest applications, devices and software to help you make the most of your technology. We can also help with the setup of a new or handed down device. Our technology support services help to identify where you need help and how we can best get the technical training to you.
As well as the initial support we offer sessions for you to have regular updates, help and ongoing assistance for the knowledge we provide. Read about our technology services:
Free drop-in sessions – First Wednesday of each month between 11am – 3pm
These are bite-sized open events available to anyone with hearing or visual challenges (when using or accessing their Android Phones/iPhones, iPads, tablets, laptops etc.). These sessions are held within the Yorsensory Hub based in North Moor Road, Huntington, York. You can come along and try out some of the devices/equipment we have on display within the Hub. There is no charge for these events but depending upon the attendance on the day, be prepared for being part of a group. (Please note; If you require personal time with our Technology Advisor to work upon a specific issue you would be required to book for a 1-2-1 session priced at £25 per hour)
1-2-1 Technology Support
If you need help getting your device up and running or would like more support to learn how to use the features of your device in a 1-2-1 setting, please phone us to book an appointment for a more convenient time.
The 1-2-1 session can be delivered within your own home or at our Sensory Hub where equipment is available to try and compare with other devices. (Please note: home visits can be considered if someone cannot make it into the Hub.) However, visiting the Hub offers a wider range of equipment to try out and provides access to the Sensory team for any other inquiries about equipment or Sensory Loss. Partners are also welcome at these sessions.
Priced at £25 per hour for face to face support the minimum booking is one hour. Five sessions can be booked in bulk for £100. If home visits are requested, travel charges will be applied if you live more than 5 miles outside of the York City Ring Road at 45p per mile.
Small group technology sessions
We can offer sessions for small groups to provide information and advice about accessible technology to teams within organisations, small charities, friendly societies, family groups etc. These events content is driven by your topic of choice which might include subjects such as internet safety, setting up an iPad or how to get connected etc.
Our Assistive Technology Advisor will research and shape the session according to your chosen topic and can bring a range of devices and demonstration equipment that can be tried and experimented with. These are friendly and relaxed sessions that will leave you feeling more informed and more confident about your device.
Priced by the hour, there is a 2 hour minimum booking required for delivery of these sessions which is priced at £50 per hour. If delivered within a 5 mile radius of the York City Ring Road then travel charges will not apply. However, outside of this boundary travel charges will be applied at 45p per mile and hourly travelling rates will apply if travelling beyond one hour of this boundary.
