The Wilberforce Trust supports people with sight and hearing impairments, including those with other disabilities. The aim of the organisation is to create opportunities that enable individuals to live fulfilled lives as independently in their community as possible.

To achieve this the Trust offers a wide range of different services, from housing, support with daily living to rehabilitation services, technology and equipment assistance, and activity and educational groups.

The Wilberforce Trust is looking for volunteers to support the planning and delivery of activities, help to create materials for sessions, support events, fundraising and much more. This is a varied position, and you will be able to discuss which areas you would like to support.

Monthly Quiz Night Volunteer

We organise sensory activity sessions for the individuals we support, whether that’s for our tenants or members of the public. We provide a range of activities ranging from crafts and baking sessions to active and calm sensory sessions, as well as organising parties and celebrations or music and exercise sessions.

We are currently seeking a confident individual with a passion for quizzes to run our Monthly Quiz Night sessions for our tenants,  who have visual and/or hearing impairments and, in some cases, complex needs. The sessions are expected to run once a month in the evening.

Responsibilities will include:

• Preparing a general knowledge quiz for each session; delivering the quiz in an engaging and accessible way tailored to the participants’ needs;
• Ensuring the event runs smoothly and inclusively.
• The selected volunteer will be required to complete mandatory online training and hold a satisfactory DBS certificate before starting.
• Full training and support will be provided by our Activities Coordinator, who will assist during the initial sessions. Support workers for tenants will also be present during the quiz nights to help participants with writing answers and taking part in the event.

Commitment

• The sessions are expected to take place on the first Friday of the month from 7 to 8pm but, if Friday doesn’t suit you, please get in touch as there may be some flexibility to change the date to another weekday.
• You will be expected to complete our volunteer  training.
• We may ask your help to support events or other activities, but this is entirely optional.

Training and support

Full training and ongoing support will be provided by The Wilberforce Trust. There will also be opportunities to access other Sensory Awareness Training.
