IT Champion
We are looking for a friendly, patient and approachable IT Champion to join our team and support people with hearing and sight loss to get the most from their devices and everyday technology.
For many people, hearing aids, other hearing devices, smartphones, tablets and assistive technology can offer huge benefits. However, getting devices set up, connected and working together can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming.
For people with sight loss, making the most of built-in accessibility features and newer assistive technologies can also help to increase confidence, independence and access to information.
As an IT Champion, you will support a member of staff during a monthly drop-in session at Wilberforce House, offering practical IT support and advice to people who may be experiencing difficulties using their hearing or sight devices.
You don’t need to be an expert in hearing or sight loss or in assistive technology. We will provide guidance and support to help you understand sensory loss and the challenges people may face.
What we really need is someone with competent IT skills, a willingness to learn, curiosity about new technology, and a genuine interest in helping others.
Skills Required
- Confident with IT and comfortable troubleshooting everyday technology.
- Friendly, patient and approachable.
- A good listener who is able to explain things clearly and in a way that works for different people.
- Curious and willing to learn about hearing loss, sight loss and assistive technology.
- Reliable and happy to work as part of a team.
- Genuinely interested in helping others and making a positive difference.
Benefits
- Make a real difference to people living with hearing or sight loss.
- Receive Sensory Awareness Training from a qualified Vision Rehabilitation Specialist.
- Learn more about hearing loss, sight loss, hearing aids, accessibility features and assistive technology.
- Develop your communication, problem-solving and volunteering skills.
- Help people discover technology that could increase their confidence, independence and connection with the world around them.
Please Note
This volunteering role will start in January 2027. However, as the role requires a DBS check, online and in-person training, and a planning session with our Activity Coordinator, we would like to start the recruitment process promptly.
If you have any questions about the role, need help completing the application form, or wish to speak to us about any reasonable adjustments or accessibility requirements, please email volunteering@wilberforcetrust.org.uk or call us on (01904) 760037.
