Club Wilber: Big Give Christmas Challenge
How Club Wilber Has Supported Sophie’s Family
Sophie came along to our first Club Wilber activity over Easter weekend in 2018. The money we raise during the Big Give Christmas challenge will help us to do more with children like Sophie and her family. If we continue to smash our fundraising target we will be eligible for the £1,000 Champions prize as well so please keep donating!
Sophie’s first Club Wilber event was the adapted Easter Egg hunt and she has been coming along to them ever since. So far Sophie’s favourite activity has been the Disney Princess party and meeting the fabulous Elsa, although her Easter Egg hunt is a close second as that activity involved chocolate. While Sophie enjoyed these two activities the most, her dad thoroughly enjoyed the Leeds Rhino’s game the most and it was fantastic to introduce Sophie to rugby.
Sophie likes Club Wilber as she enjoys the interaction with other children, even more so because this is something that is becoming more and more difficult at school.
Her parents signed her up to the Club Wilber membership scheme and this really adds to the sense of belonging; they inform us that she likes to talk about this to anyone that will listen.
As Sophie’s parents they really enjoy the opportunity that Club Wilber gives them to watch her in a happy environment enjoying the activity with other children. They have often tried events and activities elsewhere and they are not accessible for Sophie, but this is not the case with Club Wilber and they are happy that the variety of events also allow her to try new things. Club Wilber also gives them the opportunity to speak to other parents and receive tips and advice about things that Sophie might like or might be good for her. It gives them support that they haven’t had before.
With donations made during the Big Give Christmas Challenge week, we will provide even more accessible activities for families with children with visual impairments, and you could be part of this too! Just follow the link to donate.
Donate here (note that as the campaign has now closed the link has been updated so as to allow you to continue with your donation, thank you)!
