York A Boards ban comes into force

From today (the 1st February) A boards are banned within the centre of York. The ban comes following the decision by the council at their Executive’s meeting last August.

A boards are a form of street furniture that advertise shops, pubs, restaurant and the like. They can cause problem for those with mobility impairment, including people with a visual impairment, wheelchair users and families with pushchairs.

With narrow streets and heavy pedestrian traffic, A boards can cause unnecessary obstruction and risk to people as they try and navigate the city. The ban will mean that for the next 12 months the city centre will be free of these obstacles.

Th ban will run in the city for a year.

More information on the polices and restrictions can be found on the City of York Council website
